IESL College of Engineering embarks on a new era in engineering education
The IESL College of Engineering Pvt. Ltd. (IESLCE) is a company fully owned by the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) which was established in 2011 with the intention of providing engineering education and awarding engineering qualifications for those students who aspire to be Engineers.
Principal Archt.Prof.Lalith De Silva represented Habitat at the IESL College of Engineering inauguration ceremony held at its newly refurbished premises at No. 07, Hector Kobbekaduwa Mawatha, Colombo 07.
A major challenge for the practice was to refurbish while giving a new architectural concept to an abundant dilapidated government institutional building acquired by IESLCE on a five years lease term. The design solution was evolved to give a façade uplift in an open landscape background flowing from Denzil Kobbekaduwa Mawatha. The interior spaces were rebuild and refurbish to accommodate large lecture halls and laboratories for specializations of Civil, Electrical, Electronic, Computer, Telecommunication and Mechanical Engineering. In addition students’ common areas and restaurants were designed to flow from indoor to outdoor structures of fabric canopies and built in outdoor furniture. The general lighting and garden lighting are provided complimentary to each other allowing the students to use the spaces till late night as informal gathering but also as study areas.
